The leaderships of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Jama’atu Nasirl Islam (JNI) in Nasarawa State yesterday took steps to avert a possible spillover of the Jos, Plateau State, crisis which claimed many lives and inflicted injuries on some travellers in Plateau State, to Nasarawa State.
Consequently, the Nasarawa State leaderships of the CAN and JNI met with the state Commissioner of Police, Adesina Musbau Soyemi, at the deputy governor’s office, with the assurance to citizens of the state that security agencies were alerted to handle any unforeseen circumstances.
Addressing journalists shortly after the meeting, the Secretary-General of the Nasarawa State JNI, Iman Mohammed Ali, said: “The meeting condemned the killings of innocent travellers that took place in Jos, Plateau State, in its entirety.
“Both Islam and Christianity preach peace, therefore, all adherents of these two religions should continue to remain and live peacefully with others in the state.”
The JNI scribe in the state, however, encouraged citizens of the state to go about their lawful businesses without fear of molestation or harassment in any form.
He said: “The leadership of the two religions appreciates the state government proactive response towards the immediate evacuation of Nasarawa State students stranded in Jos as a result of the crisis and the curfew placed by the Plateau State Government.”
