.Say Army chief died a hero

The Chairmen of the Senate Committee on Army, Senator Ali Ndume and his Navy counterpart, Senator George Sekibo, have mourned the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt General Ibrahim Attahiru and 10 other officers and soldiers.
The duo, in separate condolence messages on Saturday, described the death of General Attahiru as the loss of a hero and a gallant officer.
Ndume, who represents Borno South in the National Assembly, expressed shock over the news of the death of the Army Chief and 10 other soldiers.
He lamented that the late gallant General died at a time when the nation was looking up to him to effectively provide the necessary leadership that would eliminate insurgency and other forms of criminality in Nigeria.
According to him, Attahiru’s death is a national tragedy adding that the army chief died a worthy hero.
The ranking Senator described Attahiru and members of his team as highly dedicated and patriotic Nigerians who have already commenced the implementation of strategies that the Nigerian Army needed to tackle external and internal forces that are threatening the nation’s peace.
Ndume prayed Allah to grant eternal salvation for all that lost their lives in the air mishap while also praying that the family members would have the fortitude to bear the loss
He said, “No doubt, this is a difficult loss for the entire Armed Forces at this crucial time when we are confronted by insecurity in all parts of the country.
“I pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) will grant the families and the Armed Forces the strength and fortitude to bear the painful loss. Amen”.
On his part, Senator Sekibo also expressed
shock over the passage of the COAS and others.
He described Attahiru as a soldier’s soldier as he dillgently and brilliantly displayed this rare quality during Senate committee interactive sessions with him.
According to the Rivers East ranking Senator: “We are going to truly miss his insightful and meticulous approach to military matters as it affects insecurity in Nigeria.
“As we pray for the repose of the souls of our gallant and committed Chief of Army Staff and other personnel on board with him, the Senate Committee on Navy condoles with the families of all those involved in the unfortunate incident”.
