Agency Trains 24 on Accident Investigation

Banjul Accord Group Accident Investigation Agency (BAGAIA) in collaboration with Institute for the Prevention and Investigation of Aeronautical and Maritime Accidents (IPIAAM) has commenced training of 24 participants in basic aircraft accident investigation

Participants from the Cabo Verde, Portugal, Ghana, Guinea Conakry and others were part of those represented in the training consummating BAGAIA’s plan of seeking massive capacity building in the region with an emphasis on training younger ones to learn from experience.

The training programme holding from May 17th to 25th, 2021, at the Pestana Tropico Hotel, Cidade da Praia, Cabo Verde, would look at diverse areas including Investigative Reasoning, Conducting an Investigation and On Scene Management.

The programme will also look at aircraft structure/fracture analysis, aircraft system, midair collusions/ inflight break ups as well as flight recorders and report writing/safety recommendations. It will analyse multiple case studies all in a bid to prepare investigators to the more practical reality of aircraft incidents and accidents

Commissioner of BAGAIA, Charles Irikefe Erhueh who gave the opening remarks thanked IPIAAM for allowing the collaboration with BAGAIA and envisaged robust and informative sessions in the days ahead.

He said,” Air transport is extremely important for the country as it reduces the conditions of insularity, guaranteeing connectivity and allowing the exploitation of the global market.

“The relevance of the aeronautical sector has come to be recognized and manifested through the major investments made in the improvement of airport and air navigation infrastructures and the construction of a system for regulations, supervisions, inspections, prevention, and investigation of accidents, and attendant safety recommendations in the aviation sector.”
