Matthew ‘M.R’ Reed Mentors Upcoming And Inexperienced Actors
Rising Musician and Stage Play Writer/Director Matthew ‘M.R’ Reed has restated the importance of mentorship, saying it plays a great role in the success of anyone especially upcoming artistes & actors in the music, movie or theatre industry.
Matthew ‘M.R’ Reed was born and raised in Chicago, IL. He earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Theater from the University of Arkansas. Upon graduating, He sees mentorship as a very important tool in any career or industry. He says mentorship is a relationship whereby a more experienced and/or knowledgeable person helps to guide a less experienced or less knowledgeable person.
Matthew says he learnt to accommodate both upcoming and inexperienced actors during the pandemic. “I met struggling actors and musicians who were having suicidal thoughts caused by depression and the lockdown” he said. So I thought I’d a way to help those who weren’t earning any income or who had to be furloughed.
So I began a mentorship initiative providing free acting classes and sometimes performance opportunities as a way of paying it forward. Mentorship is a learning and development partnership between someone with vast experience and someone who wants to learn. He said almost every great person in history has had a mentor at one point in their lives or someone who have inspired them in their rise to success.
“Most professionals these days no longer have the desire to mentor inexperienced ones because they are either scared of the competition or feel they are going to take their spot” he said.
Matthew or M.R as he is fondly called by friends has definitely made a positive impact on his community with this initiative.
