Benue Youths Give EFCC 72 Hours’ Ultimatum to Investigate ex-Gov. Suswam over Alleged N107bn Fraud
By Adedayo Akinwale in Abuja
A group, Benue Youths Movement for Good Governance, on Sunday issued a 72 hours’ ultimatum to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to launch an investigation into the alleged N107 billion fraud perpetrated by the former Governor of the State, Gabriel Suswam while in office.
The National President of the group. Mr. Terrence Kuanum, gave the ultimatum at a press conference in Abuja where he challenged the anti-graft agency to wake up from its slumber and commence investigation into the matter with the physical invitation of the affected persons to its office immediately.
According to him, “Since February 2016 when the Judicial Commission of enquiry completed her job, the declaration of stolen N107 billion by Gabriel Suswam and 51others has triggered anger in the State. We are no longer happy because this is our money and it must be returned to the treasury.”
He added that despite the fact that the Attorney General of the State, Barr. Michael Gusa, had forwarded the gazetted white paper to the EFCC three months ago, the anti-graft agency has kept on foot-dragging as it continued to sweep the petition under the carpet till this moment.
Kuanum stated: “EFCC has not said anything regarding the petition, probably because ADC to the acting chairman of EFCC was the ADC to Suswam during his last days in office as governor of Benue State. It has been uncovered that the Magu led EFCC is not ready to probe Suswam because of the former ADC to Suswam who is now the head of Magu’s inner security.”
