ASR Africa Initiative Constructs N250m Office Block at Usman DanFodio Varsity

Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) has flagged off the construction of office block at the  College of Health Sciences, Usman DanFodio University, Sokoto, worth N250million.

The philanthropic gesture of the foundation in the university is part of its 2023 Tertiary Education Grant Scheme (TEGS) comprising 22 tertiary institutions in Nigeria as beneficiaries.

Speaking at the ground-breaking event in Sokoto, the ASR Africa’s Managing Director, Dr. Ubon Udoh, said the project prioritised its intervention in education as a transformative sector for the country.

He also expressed the commitment of ASR Africa to continually supporting quality education within the tertiary education system in Nigeria and Africa.

He noted that Usman Dan Fodio University scored high in the tedious criteria before being selected among benefiting schools in the TEGS grant of N259 million.

He explained that the project has a six-month completion period.

The MD/ CEO further explained ASR Africa initiative as a philanthropic fund of $100 million that is committed to the development of health, education, and social sectors in Africa.

Udoh further stated that ASR Africa is currently undertaking several health and educational intervention in Sokoto State amount to N2 .5billion

He mentioned the project to include the construction of administrative block at College of Health Technology , Gwadabawa, construction of administrative building, and school clinic for School of Nursing Science, Tambuwal.

Others to include the construction of two units faculty office; one unit administrative block; one unit of hostel, and complete water scheme at the Sokoto State University College of Medical Sciences.

He disclosed that Abdul Samad Rabiu has been a cheerful giver who has been supportive of several schools across the country and beyond.

Udoh commended the management of the university for its cooperation with the ASR Africa infrastructure team by providing prompt feedback and required documentation on the project to ensure its take-off.

He assured them that the projects would be completed within the stipulated time

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Bilbis Lawal, commended the Chairman of ASR Africa, and the BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, for finding their institution worthy of the grant.

He identified the project as one of the institution’s priority needs, especially at a time the university was preparing for accreditation in the college.

Bilbis said the university is grateful to the Chairman of ASR Africa Initiative and BUA Group for their extra ordinary benevolence and unwavering support stressing that the University will partner the foundation to aspire greater heights of excellence.
