Guzangs Brand Expresses Commitment to Preserve African Fashion

Guzangs brand has expressed commitment to preserve African fashion, stating that Afrocentric fashion is more than just a visual delight; it is a phenomenon that evokes a deep sense of connection and pride.

The company said each piece not only enhances people’s appearance but also resonates with their roots, regardless of where they wear it, noting that with every wear, an individual put on it helps to bestow honour their heritage, express their identity, and showcase their innate creativity.

Speaking at the evolution of Africa’s Fashion Industry night which is Guzangs’ first offline experience recently, the Founder, Idelle Taye, stated that the fashion industry is the ready solution to the challenges of the continent.

Taye expressed her desire to showcase the rich depth and incredible diversity of African fashion and prints, extending beyond the runway to include photography and newer platforms.

She also stated that “The continent of Africa is a gem, and I consider it an honour to be on this journey where we rediscover the craftsmanship and heritage of African fashion. African fashion is incredibly diverse. While styles like Dashikis and Ankaras are iconic, they represent just a fraction of the richness found across the continent. Our goal is to create a platform for African fashion creatives to showcase their work, attract global attention, and reap the rewards they deserve.”

Also speaking at the event, foremost fashion advocate, Sara Sozanni Maino, hinted that the impact of the Guzangs brand lies on the fact that Africa has a rich culture, history, and story, therefore, African designers are creative with a strong drive to showcase their culture and creativity to a global stage.

The Co-founder of Deji and Kola, Ayodeji Adebayo, explained that the critical need for enhancements in production, logistics, supply chain, and other pivotal sectors essential for delivering fashion pieces to end users.

He expressed confidence that such improvements would significantly boost the exposure and visibility that the industry greatly needs.

Nollywood actor, Deyemi Okanlawon, reminisced about how he was inspired by Tom Ford’s costume design in one of his movies, igniting his passion to incorporate fashion into film production.

He said the vision came to fruition in his first production, “All’s Fair in Love.”

He noted that fashion has the ability to influence and enhance all other forms of creative expression.
