Central Europe stole the spotlight in Mumbai, India, on Saturday as Krystyna Pyszková from the Czech Republic emerged as the 2024 Miss World. The 23-year-old, a law student and model, succeeded the outgoing Miss World, Karolina Bielawska of Poland, who won the 70th edition.

The renowned beauty pageant, which began in 1951, commenced its 71st edition in February in India with over 100 contestants from around the world. Throughout the preliminary competition, the beauty queens underwent a series of challenges testing their fitness, beauty, talent, and public speaking abilities. Most contestants advanced to the Top 40, which was later narrowed down to 12 and then eight finalists. These eight finalists engaged in the Q&A round, where they were tasked with discussing topics addressed at the recent G20 Summit.

Pyszková addressed a critical issue affecting women’s health by advocating for the removal of stigma and shame surrounding menstruation. She emphasised that being a woman is a gift, and menstrual periods should not be taboo subjects.

During the final stage, Pyszková, along with three other beauty queens—Yasmina Zeytoun of Lebanon, Aché Abrahams of Trinidad and Tobago, and Lesego Chombo of Botswana—presented their philanthropic platforms to a panel of business moguls from “Shark Tank India.”

Ultimately, Pyszková emerged victorious in Mumbai.

She becomes the second beauty queen from the Czech Republic to clinch the prestigious title.
