Ostin Stylez: Redefining Nigerian Music with Versatility

Nigerian singer Ostin Stylez, born Augustine Moses, reflects on his musical journey, challenges, inspirations, recent projects, and the rise of the Afrobeats genre. Hailing from Kaduna and now based in Lagos, Ostin began his musical endeavors while in high school at Sacred Heart College in Ibadan, Oyo state.

The versatile artist realized his passion for music professionally upon acquiring his car and relocating to Lekki, Lagos, after battling depression. He found solace and purpose in the studio, reigniting his happiness and drive.

Describing his musical style, Ostin embraces his Nigerian roots while exploring various genres, from Afro to pop, jazz, R&B, and even rock and roll. With eight singles under his belt, Ostin is currently promoting “Missing Your Bum” and preparing to shoot a music video for “I Will Stay” featuring Jerry Omole, a fusion of jazz, dancehall, poetry, and Afro. Additionally, he’s working on a new single titled “Baby Don’t Dull Me.”

Ostin attributes his uniqueness to his character, journey, and God-given personality, emphasizing freedom of expression and movement. He credits his imagination as his greatest asset and envisions a future where he mentors and supports emerging artists in the entertainment industry. Recently launching “O Stylez Studio,” Ostin’s creative hub serves as a recording space for music and podcast content, where he’s produced 90% of his released singles.

Regarding Nigerian artists’ loss at the Grammys, Ostin sees it differently, stating that the Grammys rely on Afrobeats to promote their awards and even featured Fela’s “Water.” He believes Grammy needs Afrobeats more than the genre needs Grammy recognition.

To excel as a musician, Ostin emphasizes the importance of selling uniqueness, outstanding self-expression, and effective communication through melodies and lyrics.
