The Webber 3×3 Abuja Christmas tournaments have continued to generate excitement as 34 teams have already registered for the second and final phase of the event that rounds off this Saturday and Sunday in the Federal Capital Territory.

The CEO of WebberHoops and Courts, Mr Opeyemi Babalola (known as Mr Webber) told the media yesterday that he was happy to be put under such pressure.

“Our desire is to get as many people as possible playing professional or leisure basketball in Nigeria. And so when we get high of people showing up even with the short notice, I’m excited. It’s quite pressure to run this event in the two days left but it is positive wahala, if I may put it that way, and I like it,” he said.

The first phase of the competition began last week at the Abuja Life Camp from where two semi-finalists emerged. The event, named the Abuja City Slam Quest, continues on Saturday at the Jabi Lake Mall from about 10am.

Two teams from the Jabi Lake Mall contest will join Magic Ballers and TNT 1 for the Final-4. The Lagos show held at the 1004 Estate in Victoria Island was seen as a blockbuster but experts of the game believe the holiday season will help create a bigger atmosphere at the Jabi Lake area as the Abuja residents are already keeping tabs on the competition. There will be slam dunk competitions with lots of music and other forms of entertainment.

Webber desires to make basketball more popular in Nigeria and played in every neighbourhood across the country. The entire equipment used for the competition is manufactured in Nigeria by Webber Engineering Company.
