As part of its Creativity Activity and Service (CAS), the IB Diploma students of Greensprings School, Lagos, recently donated over 700 books and other learning materials to Oworonshoki Primary School.

The gesture tagged ‘IB CAS Book Drive’ aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 4), which aims to provide essential academic resources to schools in their vicinity that lack them.

The presentation ceremony also featured an enlightenment session on the importance of books and reading.

According to the CAS Coordinator, IB Department, Mr. Kenechukwu Agu, the CAS is an aspect of the IB programme which sees to the all-round development of the students in terms of community service, creativity, etc.

While emphasising the importance of education and reading, he urged other organisations interested in giving back to the community to consider projects that are sustainable and have lasting impact.

One of the students, Monalisa Dike, said they saw that some schools around them did not have the kind of facilities and basic necessities that they had, so they decided to start a book drive to promote education around them.

Another student, Jasmine Adegoke, said the book drive aligned with the school’s mission of promoting holistic education, appealing to other students and parents to donate books.

The headteacher of the benefiting school, Mrs. Olufunke Oyalabu, thanked the donor and promised to make judicious use of the materials. She said the items would alleviate the suffering of the children.

A representative of Kosofe LGA, Mr. Abayomi Elugbedu, commended the IB Diploma students for the gesture, which he said would improve the lives of the beneficiaries.
