Akwa Ibom Seeks Partnership with Canada, Investors For Tourism Development

The Akwa Ibom State Government has solicited partnership from Canadian Government for promoting and exploring tourism potentials in the State.

The Honorary Special Adviser to the Akwa Ibom Governor on Culture and Tourism, Mrs. Ime Udo, made this known in her address during the End of Year Bazaar organized by the Deputy High Commission of Canada in Lagos, Nigeria.

She said that the proposed partnership with the government of Canada in the areas of tourism and cultural promotion would further strengthen relationship between both entities.

Udo who represented the Akwa Ibom State Government through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism at the annual event informed the host and guests, of the large human capital resources potentials available in Akwa Ibom, and the government’s desire to partner with willing investors in areas such as tourism, agriculture, infrastructure development and more.

Hghlighting tourism potentials in the State, she stated “Akwa Ibom, known as the ‘Land of Promise’ is a State brimming with unique cultural assets and tourism sites that reflect the harmonious co-existence of its people, while its array of culinary offerings is second to none.

“The State is a haven of peace, where businesses strive. It is safe and well secured”

“Akwa Ibom is the only Nigerian State that owns and operates a commercial airline, Ibom Air, which has greatly boosted the economy of the State. All these contribute to the richness of our cultural identity”.

She expressed the willingness of the Akwa Ibom governor, Pastor Umo Eno- led administration to partner with prospective genuine investors, with verifiable capacity that can key into the government ‘s ARISE Agenda.

“With 31 Local Governments, each boasting unique historical heritage, Akwa Ibom stands as a testament to the fascinating diversity within Nigeria.
Our government’s commitment to infrastructural development is evident, driven by the ARISE Agenda – a visionary initiative aimed at opening up the State for business, collaboration, and partnerships to harness its vast potential across all industries”, she said.

The governor’s aide also told her host, “Governor Umo Eno remains passionate about tourism and investments from companies and government agencies in your country. We therefore look forward to opportunities for the Akwa Ibom State Government’s tourism sector in Canada and your visit to Akwa Ibom.

“The invitation you have extended to us is a testament to the goodwill shared between our regions, and we earnestly hope that it marks the beginning of a lasting partnership. Together, we can create meaningful connections, promote cultural exchange and unlock the tremendous potential for collaboration and growth”, Udo stressed.

In her remarks, Canada Deputy High Commissioner, Lagos, Ms C.J. Scott while appreciating the Akwa Ibom State Government delegation at the Bazaar, assured that the Canadian government will make a conscious decision to explore partnership opportunities with the State government.

Also speaking, Counsellor (Management), Deputy High Commission of Canada in Lagos, Aissatou Seck,thanked participants and noted that the office of the Consular – General would be willing to visit different States in Nigeria to promote cultural – tourism development in particular.

Highpoint of the event was exhibition of locally – made products and display of different delicacies and cultural dances.

The event which had Mr Michael Effiong James, Senior Special Assistant ( Lagos) Laison and Prince Felix Udoh, President, AKISCOM, Lagos as part of the Akwa Ibom State delegation was also attended by many monarchs such as HRM Saheed Eledgushi and HRM Oba Muriana Adedini.

The Baazar was also spiced with music from King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall ( KWAM I), Aristos Band and many others.
