The maiden edition of Nigeria Comedy Awards finally took place on Sunday 24th September 2023, at Eko Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos; with a glamorous event which recognized the outstanding contributions, by certain individuals and organisations, into Nigeria’s Comedy Industry; including but not limited to ‘Revelation of the Year’ – Layi Wasabi, ‘Posthumous Award’ – Sam Loco Efe and Gbenga Adeboye, ‘Best Comedy Kid’ – Kiriku, and ‘Best Comedy Cartoonist’ – Dada Adekola; for which all five each received N1million in addition to their plaques.
The event was hosted by the multitalented Kiekie, with exciting music performances by Tuface Idibia, and 9ice; electrifying dance drama by Segun Adefila’s Crown Troupe of Africa; and hilarious standup comedy by Akpororo, and Damola; while the Chairman of wapTV – Wale Adenuga MFRmarked his 75th birthday, and launched his biography book titled ‘The Unusual Biography of Wale Adenuga MFR; A Pencil in the Hand of the Creator’ which is currently available on Amazon and several E-Book platforms with physical copies soon to be announced.
According to Wole Adenuga, Co-Executive Producer, Nigeria Comedy Awards, “We appreciate the immense support from Lagos State Government, Indomie Noodles, Airtel, Malta Guinness, Peak Milk, and Fanta who partnered with us to ensure that the event surpassed even our highest expectations. The names of all winners, as well as several photos and videos from the event, are now on our Instagram platforms while the entire recorded event would soon be available to watch on several television channels as well as online.”
The 2023 edition of the annual Nigeria Comedy Awards was organized by wapTV – Nigeria’s foremost Family Entertainment Channel on a network of several cable platforms.
