Umahi Sacks Ebonyi Council Boss, Deputy, Others

Ebonyi state Governor, Chief David Umahi has approved the immediate and indefinite suspension of the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ohaozara local government council, Mr. Sunday Ogbonnaya and all political appointees of the council area.

Consequently, the governor has approved the immediate appointment of Hon. Mark Onu as the Acting Chairman of the local government and Mrs. Chukwu Ajah as the Vice Chairman Caretaker Committee of Ohaozara local government area. 

The embattled council heads were sacked over alleged lack of commitment to the Environmental and Sanitary programme of Ebonyi State government as evident in the very poor environmental and sanitary conditions of Ohaozara local government headquarters, Obiozara .

In a release endorsed by Principal Secretary to the Governor, Chief Clement Nweke, the governor also sacked the Heads of Personnel Management and Treasurer of the local government council s and therefore directed that no staff of Ohaozara would be paid his or her salaries until the local government headquarters is certified clean and look habitable..

The council area was said to have been overgrown by grasses, defaced by deep refuse and offices including that of the Chairman covered by cobwebs and the local government headquarters deserted by the staff.

When the Principal Secretary to the governor, Chief Clement Nweke led a team of journalists to the council headquarters for inspection yesterday at 9:48am only 17 out of the 128 staff were in attendance while the entire local government headquarter  was in terrible condition.

The works, education, health and agriculture departments were overgrown by weeds with equipment broken down and covered by dusts and cobwebs.

A building housing 500KV generating set was blocked with cassava farm overgrown by weeds which made it impossible for the Principal Secretary and the media team to ascertain the condition of the generating set.

Addressing the few workers who came to work, Chief Nweke said Governor

Umahi has directed that no staff of the local government will be paid

his or her salaries until the local government headquarters is

certified clean and look habitable.
