Suspected gunmen at the early hours of yesterday attacked the police check point at Ishieke junction in Ebonyi State and killed one police officer.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Joshua Ukandu, said the hoodlums also burnt the police patrol vehicle.

He explained that the hoodlums shot sporadically at the officers, who engaged them fiercely and were able to repel them.

According to him, “On April 11, 2024, at about 7:15a.m., hoodlums in an ash colour Toyota Sienna vehicle attacked the police check point at Isheke junction in Ebonyi LGA of Ebonyi State. However, one of the officers was fatally wounded and a patrol vehicle set ablaze.”

DSP Ukandu noted that though normalcy has been restored to the area, the state Commissioner of Police, Augustina Ogbodo, has immediately deployed police operatives to the scene, and they were on the trail of the hoodlums.

The PPRO further called on well-meaning individuals in the state to avail the Command with useful information that would aid in apprehending the fleeing hoodlums while noting that the Command remains resolute in its fight against crimes, and ready to protect lives and property.
