Inspired by the electrifying atmosphere of the AFCON 2023 tournament, where Nigeria clinched the silver medal, CupidKid shares his insight into the genesis of the Jersey Tour: “The inspiration behind the Jersey Tour with CupidKid was the just concluded AFCON 2023 when Nigeria claimed the silver. Africa as a whole experienced a turn up in which every country that participated in the tournament has shown to have benefited financially, positively impacted their mental and social health status. Everyone got something to talk about even on social media. Evidently there were demands for and scarcity of sport jerseys.”
Under the banner of the hashtag #ProtectYourMentalHealth, CupidKid elucidates on how this campaign will illuminate the significance of mental well-being while underscoring the manifold benefits of sports engagement: “The planned hashtag and campaign #ProtectYourMentalHealth will play a crucial role in promoting both the tour and the overall message by creating an awareness on the benefits of engaging in sports generally. It will provide a unique opportunity for participants to engage in health-enhancing physical activities of varied intensity, duration, and mode; and the opportunity to do so with other people as part of a team/club. Participation in individual and team sports have shown to be beneficial to physical, social, psychological, and cognitive health outcomes.”
Moreover, CupidKid emphasizes how the jerseys will serve as a conduit for fostering camaraderie and identity among participants, transcending cultural barriers and fostering inclusivity: “Sport is a universal element in all cultures and therefore we have chosen to include it as a theme for Compass. It also enhances social and cultural life by bringing together individuals and communities. Sports can help to overcome difference and encourages dialogue, and thereby helps to break down prejudice, stereotypes, cultural differences, ignorance, intolerance and discrimination.”
