The Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed has sought the support of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) in the training of youths of adolescent age on self-discipline and self-reliance in an effort to tackle immoral behaviour in the society.

Speaking at the closing of the 80th edition of the  National Islamic Vacation Course held at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi, yesterday, the governor expressed concern that the society was seriously afflicted with a number of challenges which had spread to almost every aspect.

Represented by his Deputy, Mohammed Jatau, the governor applauded the leadership of MSSN for organising the week-long intensive programme in which young Muslim adolescent boys and girls were trained on both moral and qualitative education.

He also commended the effort of the organisation for organising such a programme, thereby complementing the government’s effort in ensuring an egalitarian society.

The governor said that security of lives and property of the citizens remain the major priorities of his administration, noting that managing security of lives and property always requires moral and religious approach to inculcate in youth self-discipline, healthy competition and self-reliance.

“Moral behaviour is seriously lacking among the youth and the illicit relationships and behaviour of the youths of adolescent age. There are indeed rampant and incessant cases of sexual harassment and aggression much as there are incidents of rape and kidnapping mostly committed under the influence of drugs. This intervention of the MSSN is timely and highly appreciated.

“Since my tenure began in 2019, our focus has been clear – to empower the youth and women economically and integrate them into governance. Thousands have received government support for business endeavours, emphasising self-reliance as taught by Islam.

“Our state’s potential is vast, and I urge our youth to seize and utilise the many opportunities that are available in various sectors, especially the agricultural value chain,” he said.

In a keynote address, the Sultan of Sokoto,  Sa’ad Abubakar, said the theme, which was: “The Position of Muslims in National Politics and Economy: Where We Are And Where We Ought To Be” was timely.

The MSSN National Amir, Mallam Shehu Abubakar noted that Muslim societies and youths have a vital role to play in national politics and the economy, hence the need for the youths to be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed.
