Bandits Invade Kaduna Community, Kill Six People

Two killed, three injured as gunmen attack Kwara community

Six people have been reportedly killed by suspected bandits in an attack on Takanai community in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Similarly, two persons have been reportedly killed while three others sustained serious degrees of gunshot injuries on Tuesday night when a gang of gunmen stormed Alalubosa community, Oko Olowo in the Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State.

A Takanai community leader, Samson Markus, confirmed the Kaduna incident yesterday in a telephone call.

He said the bandits invaded the community at about 7 p.m. last Tuesday, killing six people, including two children.

According to him, residents of the community were going about their normal activities that evening when suddenly the bandits arrived in the community, shooting sporadically, and people started running for their dear lives.

He said: “The bandits came around 7 p.m. when we least expected that such a thing could happen. We were going about our usual activities when suddenly we heard sporadic gunshots.

“Everybody started running helter-skelter for safety. Four people from the same family and another two from the same family were killed, including two children,” adding that by the time security personnel arrived in the community, the bandits had fled.

Markus lamented the resurgence of attacks on communities, and appealed to the government and security agencies to take urgent steps to crush the criminals.

Meanwhile, the acting spokesperson of the Kaduna State Police Command, Mansir Hassan, did not respond to telephone calls when contacted.

Meanwhile, two persons have been reportedly killed while three others have sustained serious degrees of gunshot injury on Tuesday night when a gang of gunmen stormed Alalubosa community, Oko Olowo in the Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State.

THISDAY checks revealed that the hoodlums entered the community and started shooting sporadically, forcing residents to run helter skater.  

According to sources in the area, the gunmen stormed the community at about 10:00 p.m. when the residents were enjoying cool weather outside their houses, adding that the residents ran for their lives when the attackers decided to attack the houses one after another.

“One girl, Semiat Mukaila, was shot on the arm while Abdullahi Awe’s leg was broken with gun butt. They are both receiving treatment at hospital now. The hoodlums also shot Isiaq Abdullahi on the arm.

“After they shot another resident, Mr. AbdulRasheed Alafara, on the leg, and as he tried to escape from the scene the attackers pursued him and gave him machete cuts until he died.

“The members of the vigilante team also succeeded in killing one of the suspected kidnappers.”

Reports also had it that the gunmen, numbering six, rained bullets for more than 30 minutes when they entered into the community, and that members of the local vigilante team were able to gun down one of the hoodlums while others ran away.

The source in the area gave kudos for bravery of the men of the local vigilante team, appealing to concerned authorities to provide them with adequate ammunition to combat insurgents.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Okasanmi Ajayi, who confirmed the report, said that the police command had drafted its men to the scene since 1:00 a.m. when it got the report.
