The lawmaker representing Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency in Katsina State, Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Ahmed, has donated four-truck loads of assorted fertilisers to farmers in his constituency to boost food production in the area.

Addressing the farmers during the distribution in Musawa, the lawmaker said the gesture has become necessary in view of the devastating impact of security challenges in the constituency.

Ahmed, who is the Talban-Musawa, said the gesture was to enhance and revamp agricultural activities, not just in Musawa and Matazu Local Governments of the constituency but in Katsina State as a whole.

He noted that the intervention would be a continuous process because his constituents were predominantly farmers in agrarian communities which deserve support to boost food production and security.

He lamented the negative impact of insecurity on agricultural activities in the constituency and called for the Federal Government’s urgent attention to tackle the challenge once and for all.

He said insecurity has become a major challenge for the farmers in the area, adding that the donation of fertilisers to the farmers was a personal effort to assist them at their point of need.

The Talban-Musawa promised to do everything humanly possible to find a lasting solution to the banditry problem bedevilling the constituency so as to maximise the agricultural potential of the area.

He charged residents of the constituency to arm themselves against banditry, adding that it was morally wrong for people to submit meekly to the hoodlums without any attempt to defend themselves.

Earlier, the state APC Deputy Chairman, Hon. Bala Abubakar-Musawa, described the intervention as timely and called on the Federal Government to tame the spate of insecurity in the constituency for farming activities to thrive.

He further urged the government to take proactive measures to end the security challenges faced by the constituents, especially farmers and necessary legal steps to placate the families of those affected by the insecurity.
