NSSEC to Tackle Failure in Mathematic, English

The National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC) has vowed to tackle mass failure in Mathematic and English language courses in senior secondary schools across the country.

The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Dr. Iyela Ajayi, disclosed this during a five- day capacity building training programme for selected English and Mathematics teachers in Senior secondary schools within the North West Zone.

He said, the goal of the training was to build the capacity of teachers of Mathematics and English language with modern skills so as to impart the needed knowledge on the students with the aim of ensuring that they passed the subjects during their final examinations in secondary schools across the nation.

Ajayi, noted that as part of the commission’s mandate was to ensure minimum standard in Senior Secondary Schools, developed a Teaching Manual for Mathematics and English Language teachers to enhance their methodology/pedagogical skills in the two core subjects.

He added that the National Senior Secondary Education Commission was dedicated to ensure quality education delivery with best global practices.

In his remark, the Kano State Commissioner of Education, Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajiya Kubra Imam, said the capacity building training was very timely. He maintained that Kano State Government was accorded much priority to the educational sector ,geared towards having a bright future for the students, who are future leaders of tomorrow.
