A widow, Mrs. Oluchi Onwe, has been reportedly beaten by three young boys from Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the LGA, Prince Ikechukwu Odono, noted that the widow was beaten because her goat allegedly ate the cassava stems of the three suspects.

Odono said the three suspects have been arrested by the police for further investigations.

Meanwhile, the wife of the state Governor, Mrs. Mary-Maudine Nwifuru, has directed a full-scale investigation on the matter.

In a statement issued by her Press Secretary, Nnenna Oshibe, the first lady reiterated her commitment to get justice for Ebonyi women.

She said: “On receiving the report, I directed the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development to visit the local government area where the incident occurred to confirm the incident and ensure that it is properly handled.

“The Commissioner, Hon Felicia Nwakpuma, in the company of the Ohaukwu LGA Chairman Prince Ikechukwu Odono, visited the area and confirmed that the widow has been hospitalised and the three boys have been arrested as directed by the Ohaukwu LGA chairman, and investigation is ongoing. It was also discovered that the widow was beaten because her goat ate the cassava stem of the three men.”

The wife of the governor further appealed to Ebonyi people to always report any form of violence against women to the appropriate quarters.
