The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State deepened yesterday as the two factions elected separate executives to pilot the affairs of the party for the next three years

The faction loyal to Governor Bello Matawalle conducted its congress with a mammoth crowd celebrating and cheering him as its new leader.

Matawalle has also announced the suspension of embargo on telecommunication services in the state beginning from tomorrow (Monday).

The representatives of APC from the 14 local governments in the state elected AlhajiTukur Danfulani, along with 35 others as the newly elected executive members of the party for the four-year term.

Addressing a mammoth crowd of the party’s supporters shortly after the elective congress, at the Trade Fair Centre, Gusau, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee of the party sent by the national headquarters of the APC, Hon. Ibrahim Kabir Masari, described the congress as one of the best, peaceful and credible exercises.

In his address of solidarity and support to the new elected party leaders, Matawalle described the Congress as divine intervention for unity, peace and cohesion among APC supporters and people of Zamfara State.

Matawalle promised to give the new executive all the needed support and cooperation towards achieving their targeted goals.

“We will work together with you in peace and understanding so as to move our great party to greatness, we must adhere to the rules and regulations governing the affairs of this great party in order to get much support ahead,” the governor said.

Meanwhile, the APC faction led by Senator Kabiru Marafa has elected Alhaji Surajo Garba Maikatako and 31 others executives to pilot the affairs of the party for the next three years.
The affirmation was announced yesterday during the State APC Congress held in Tsafe town, the headquarters of Tsafe Local Government Area of the state.

In another development, Marafa and former Governor Abdulraziz Yari have denied defecting to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

A statement signed by the duo said they cannot leave the party they built over the years for strangers.

In a new development, Matawalle has announced the suspension of an embargo on telecommunications in the state beginning from tomorrow.

Matawalle said the decision to suspend the measure was informed by an encouraging report of peace attained in the nooks and crannies of the state.

He made the announcement at the state APC Congress held at the trade fair complex, Gusau, today.

“I want to announce today that we have taken a decision to lift the ban on telecommunications in the state. God’s willing, as from next Monday we shall have that effected. The decision, he said, was due to encouraging reports of successes achieved in the state from that stringent measure”, Matawalle said.

He thanked the people of the state for their patience and perseverance throughout the trying period and assured that his administration will continue to take any measure necessary to preserve peace and protect lives and property.
