She stated that, the MICH programme, which had gone through phases one and two, would fully take off with phase three during the launch to ensure the programme continues to provide free food packs for indignant pregnant women as well as prevent malnutrition, which could cause stunt growth in children.

Continuing, Mrs Adebowale said that 20 indigent pregnant women were being targeted in each local government in Lagos State as the MICH programm is officially launched on Wednesday.

Adebowale called on other states in the federation to emulate the concept of the mother, infant and child initiative to provide security from the womb and to reduce mother and child mortality, emphasizing that the programme is capital intensive.

Indigent pregnant women who seek to benefit from the programme must have registered with The Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA).

In addition to that, Doctor Japhet Olugbogi, Medical Officer of Health at Ifelodun LCDA, said the phases one and two pilot programmes had prevented a lot of women from giving birth at home.

He pleaded with NGOs, private organizations, as well as corporate bodies to support the initiative in order to expand the scope.
