Bauchi to Benefit from World Bank’s ACRESAL Project

Bauchi State has been selected among the 19 northern states to benefit from the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACRESAL), a World Bank project.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Bauchi Wednesday, the Commissioner for Environment and Housing, Hon. Hamisu Muazu Shira, said the state government will work with relevant stakeholders in order to benefit from the project.

The commissioner tasked participating ministries to work assiduously so as to enable the state meet the requirements of accessing the intervention.

“I welcome all of you to this important meeting, I must appreciate your efforts and commitment towards ensuring the success of this project in our state,” Shira said.

He said one of the objectives of the project is to increase the adoption of climate resilient landscape management practices and enhance livelihoods in targeted arid/semi-arid watersheds in northern Nigeria.

“The ACRESAL project is aimed at focusing on improving agriculture activities in this semi-arid landscapes while ensuring safeguard of lives and the environment involved as well as improving the livelihood of people in project areas,” he said.

Shira therefore expressed confidence that the implementation of the project in the state will contribute positively towards addressing challenges in the environment, agriculture and water resources sectors.
