BUA Cement Awards 50 Students Scholarship

BUA Cement Plc yesterday awarded no fewer than 50 Students of Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara State indigenes scholarship amounting to millions of Naira

The company, also, equipped 50 others persons trained in different skill acquisition programmes with kits to enable them start operation.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr. Yusuf Binji disclosed this in Sokoto yesterday, noting that the programmes “are part of the company corporate responsibility.”

Binji, who was represented by the Plant Director, Mr. Aminu Bashar, said the scholarship and skill acquisition programmes were to complement Governor Aminu Tambuwal’s policies on declaration of state of emergency on education in Sokoto State.

He, further, explained that 24 schools mostly from the host communities “will be given exercise books, desks and chairs. What you are witnessing today is part of corporate social responsibility and is being carried out annually.”

He disclosed that the benefiting students “are engineering students selected from Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States studying at various tertiary institutions in the country.”

Out of the 50 slots, the managing director explained that 15 were allocated to immediate host communities of Wamakko Local Government (LGA) while 15 were shared among other LGAs of Sokoto State.

He further stressed that 20 slots were for students of Kebbi and Zamfara States.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Wamakko LGA, Alhaji Haliru Gwiwa lauded BUA Cement Plc for the gesture.

He noted that the gesture would complement the government’s efforts in the education sector.

According to Gwiwa, the scholarship and education materials would significantly relieve the government and parents of some burden.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Saratu Ahmad and Jennifer John commended BUA Cement Plc, noting that it would lessen their burden and boost their performances.
