The Accountant General of the Federation Ahmed Idris has said amidst the revenue challenges facing the country, the federal government will continue to collaborate with relevant agencies and organisations in research work to harness and explore the nation’s untapped revenue potentials.
Idris said this in Abuja on Thursday when he received the President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), Mr Adesina Adedayo, and some members of the institute on a courtesy visit.
He said government will continue to give attention to stakeholders with special skills in improving its revenue performance.
He therefore sought a better working relationship with the institute to promote national development, adding that with their offices all over the Federation the institute have a crucial role to play in revenue generation.
Earlier in his remark, President of the Institute, Adedayo, said entrenching professionalism in the Nigeria tax system remains key to success.
“Particularly in a country such as Nigeria where the revenue to GDP ratio still hovers around 7 percent on the aggregate and demands for funding are huge.
“CITN recognise the challenges that your office encounters in managing these huge demands. It is commendable that a number of reforms were instituted which have largely created the necessary framework for proper accountability.
“As an institution, CITN remains committed to entrenching professionalism in the Nigerian Tax System. We have achieved quite a lot in this respect with the introduction of the use of customised, secured stamps and seals by tax practitioners filing tax returns on behalf of taxpayers,” he said.
