Lagos Inaugurates School Projects

The Lagos State Government, yesterday, inaugurated school projects across the state, in commemoration of his second year in office.

Speaking at Akintan Junior Grammar School, Surulere after inaugurating blocks of classrooms and other facilities in four public schools, the state Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu reiterated his commitment towards revitalising the education sector, providing conducive environment for teaching and learning across all schools within the state.

He affirmed that education empowered a child with necessary knowledge and set skills to actualise potentials and maximise opportunities in life, adding that the education sector was critical to the growth and development of any society.

He said the face of Lagos State was changing rapidly with globalisation and technological advancement and there was urgent need to prepare the future leaders for the challenges ahead.

According to him, “actualising 1,097 projects, covering 970 schools is to further fulfill our mandate of the THEMES Agenda for a Greater Lagos. Our government ensured prompt construction and rehabilitation of 322 dilapidated public schools, while 87,000 dual composite units of furniture were supplied to primary and secondary schools; we are flagging-off these school infrastructural projects to deliver 300 classrooms including seven new hostel blocks across the schools in the state.”

Sanwo-Olu added that his administration was convinced that teaching and learning could only take place effectively in a conducive environment, which explains our commitment to the provision of new structures and the rehabilitation of existing ones.

The governor disclosed that metropolitan fiber optics would be launched in schools to provide internet connectivity for students to enhance their learning, adding that the pilot will commence with 100 schools.

He however, assured parents of an improved standard of teaching and learning in all schools and making Lagos State an education tourist destination.

The Chairman, House Committee on Education, Okanlawon Sanni, commended the gradual and steady progress of the governor towards proferring solutions to challenges of education, stressing that he keeps to his words towards improving every sector in the State.

Earlier in her welcome address, Commissioner for Education Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo pointed out that in less than two years of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu in office, the education sector has witnessed huge transformation in the provision of schools infrastructure, teachers welfare, enhancing teaching and learning with the use of technology among other critical needs.
