Senate Gets New Spokesman

The Senate now has appointed a new spokesperson in the person of Senator Ajibola Basiru , representing Osun Central .

He was yesterday named the new Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs.

President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, who made the announcement during plenary, also named the erstwhile acting spokesman of the upper legislative chamber, Senator Godiya Akwashiki as the new Chairman of the Senate Committee on Labour and Productivity. Akwashiki replaced Senator Benjamin Umajumogu, who died last December in Abuja

Former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Biodun Olujimi (Ekiti South) has also been named Chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora.

Basiru, who until his new assignment chaired the Senate Committee on Diaspora, was a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Osun State.

Akwashiki (Nasarawa North) was before yesterday, the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs.

A former deputy governor of Ekiti State, Olujimi was a former member of the House of Representatives and ex-board member of the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC).
