As part of efforts by the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration to reposition the civil service for effective service delivery, over 400 civil servants from level 8 to level 16, in Edo State have taken a promotional test to examine their preparedness for the next phase of their careers.
Edo State Head of Service, Mr. Isaac Ehiozuwa, said the test was organised as part of reforms to reposition the civil service for optimal performance.
Speaking during a training and evaluation seminar before the test, Ehiozuwa said, professional training would be organised for the officers to take care of their perculiar needs and so they can fit into the vision of the governor for the civil service.
He noted that evaluation tests, which is global best practice, will assist the state government in measuring competency in the civil servants so as to place officers where their expertise is needed, noting, “a civil service of excellence is what is needed in Edo State.”
Ehiozuwa urged for cooperation of all cadre of officers to enable Governor Obaseki’s administration to realise its objectives, especially as regards to institutional reform, which will drive private sector investment.
He noted that the proposed training will afford civil servants the opportunity to broaden their knowledge in financial management and civil service rules.
One of the test takers, Mrs Marian Abiobhode, said she was quite at home with the idea to train and evaluate civil servants, adding that the exercise will keep the officers in top form.
