Daniel’s Dilemma

Daniel’s Dilemma

Former Ogun State governor and coordinator of the Alhaji Atiku Abubakar campaign for the entire south, Otunba Gbenga Daniel was strongly in the news for the better part of last week, unfortunately, for the wrong reasons. He had first endorsed the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun even when his party, the PDP had its own candidate, Buruji Kashamu. Not done, days later, he hinted of the possibility of defecting to the APC.

Naturally, the development attracted unsavoury reactions from everywhere, including members of the APC he claimed his supporters wanted him to lead them to. Everyone thought his moves were too hasty, poorly conceived and suggestive of treachery and betrayal of Atiku, who is still in court challenging the outcome of the presidential election.

Truth is that Daniel is said not to be happy about many things in the PDP and believed he was badly treated for the period of the campaigns if not undermined. He didn’t feel appreciated and thought he might have had enough of partisan politics hence his official announcement of quitting earlier in the week. Whatever his grievances are, he obviously didn’t handle it well and with just a false move, he’s landed on a stone-based slab. What a dilemma!
