The Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, has partnered with the Public Affairs Section of the United States Consulate General on a recruitment workshop for the Hubert Humphrey Fellowship, a Fulbright exchange programme.

Rector of the Polytechnic, Prof. Abiodun Falodun, in a statement, said that the purpose of the workshop is “to inform prospective applicants on how to apply successfully for the fellowship as experts from the consulate will give tips on what makes for a competitive application.”

He said the workshop will hold on Thursday, March 14, at the Polytechnic complex in Usen, near Benin City, and will present a platform for the consulate staff to engage with professionals on the Fellowship and guide prospective fellows on how to put in a good application.

He explained that the workshop would be the first to be hosted by the school and urged interested applicants to attend the workshop as the fellowship presents an opportunity for professionals with at least eight years work experience to undergo a specialised, 10-month, non-degree graduate-level study in the United States of America.

He added that the programme includes leadership development and professional collaboration with United States counterparts at selected universities in the North American country.

According to him, “We are excited to be having this sort of workshop at the polytechnic as this is one of the few times such an event will be holding in a Nigerian polytechnic.

“I also want to use this opportunity to stress that the partnership is part of our overall strategic vision to reposition polytechnic education in Nigeria to become a place for solutions and scholarship.”

He added that the Hubert Humphrey Fellowship programme is sponsored by the United States Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), adding that those eligible to apply are mid-career professionals.
