While congratulating the President-elect President Muhammadu Buhari and the Vice President-elect Yemi Osinbajo for their victory in the just concluded presidential election held on Saturday 23rd February, 2019, I wish to most humbly observe the following errors on the Certificate of Returns issued to them on 27th February 2019 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC):
“Certificate of Returns to the Office of the President” and also “Certificate of Returns to the Office of the Vice President”. In my modest view and if one may ask: president and vice president of where and what?
The narratives should have been “Certificate of Returns to the Office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria or Certificate of Returns to the Office of the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
Another error was the assertion that says: “I hereby certify that Yemi Osinbajo of All Progressives Congress (APC) has been elected to the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria” instead of the Office of the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Much as one must commend the tireless sacrifice and efforts of INEC towards ensuring a hitch free exercise, one would however wonder why such an avoidable error could be allowed to manifest without being detected by the INEC Secretariat, more so that such errors were made on the Certificate of Returns of the President and the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In view of the above, I humbly and respectfully wish to suggest that the certificates be immediately withdrawn with a view to correcting and returning them as appropriate, please.
