The federal government has expressed its determination to reposition the military to enable it perform its constitutional role effectively.

This is coming as the government has also restated its commitment to the establishment of a military industrial complex that would provide support for adequate kitting and equipping of the armed forces.

Speaking at the official presentation of Full Business Case (FBC) and compliance certificate by the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) to the Ministry of Defence for the establishment of military and paramilitary clothing and Accessories Factory at Kaduna, the Minister of Defence, Brigadier-General Mansur Dan-Ali (rtd), said government was determined to reposition the military for greater efficiency.

He said the establishment of the factory in Kaduna is coming under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) between the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) and Messrs Sure Corporate-wear of Republic of Turkey as a way of minimising undue reliance on importation of military hardware and clothing.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria under the able leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari is determined to reposition the Armed Forces of Nigeria to effectively perform its constitutional responsibility of safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

“The government is therefore committed to the task of establishing a functional military industrial complex that
will provide indigenous support for adequate kitting and equipping of the armed forces”, he said.
