Motorists plying the Lekki/Epe expressway will now heave a sigh of relief as two notorious armed robbers, Akpan Samuel and Ani Chukwuma, were remanded in Ikoyi prison after their arraignment before Igbosere Magistrate-Court last week.

Operatives of the Lagos State Command led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Maroko Division, CSP Isah Abdulmajid, nabbed the suspects on October 29, the state police spokesman, CSP Chike Oti, revealed.

According to Oti, the DPO stated that during interrogation, the suspects said their modus operandi was to mount the pedestrian bridge at Maruwa bus stop, Lekki/Epe expressway to monitor the traffic and carefully select their target.

They, thereafter, would swoop on the target and robbed them of their valuables with big hammer used to smash side glasses and windscreens of vehicles drivers who refused to roll down their glasses.

Oti added: “The hammer and an improvised pistol that looks like a perfect prototype of a berretta pistol, were recovered from them upon arrest.”

Noting that the suspects’ activities became a source of concern to the command, the  Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, directed the DPO to mobilise all assets at his disposal to ensure the arrest and prosecution of the hoodlums.

The CP, therefore, assured Lagosians that the activities of this set of criminals would soon be a thing of the past as the Command had increased surveillance along all routes with heavy traffic prevent such incident from happening again.
