The Kaduna state government on Sunday imposed a 24 hour curfew on Kaduna city and environ to avert break down of law and order.

At about 4pm on Sunday violence erupted in Mararaban Rido and Sabon Tasha areas of the city leading to tension and apprehension as residents rushed back from shops, church activities and the markets to their homes.

The streets were empty as motorists and commercial vehicles deserted all major roads within the city.

There had been uneasy calm in the city following last Thursday’s bloody clashes between Muslims and Christians in Kasuwan Magani community in Kajuru local government area of the state.

Over 60 people were killed in the incident.
The state government in a statement by Samuel Aruwan, media aide to Governor Nasir el-Rufai said a 24 hour curfew had been imposed on the state capital and environs.
