Olasoji Alabi’s Forte

For some time now, Olasoji Alabi has dedicated his life to rendering social services. Everything he has been engaged in revolves around social services, which many have described as his forte.

Last year, he was actively involved in the Spell &Thrill competition, an initiative aimed at creating a platform for peer mentorship and a forum for educators and students to showcase fruits of their diligence outside the classroom environments.

As part of sustaining his passion to build stronger communities and promote equality and opportunity, he has, again, championed a new initiative called WaterIt. The new non-governmental Organisation recently launched its activities with a Wash4Prisons Campaign.

Speaking at the launch of the campaign at the Akure Prison, Olokuta, Ondo State, Alabi said the initiative was aimed at creating awareness for disadvantaged groups and people living under legal custody.

He noted that the whole essence of the initiative was to reiterate citizens’ human rights to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, irrespective of their location and situation.

The NGO went further to launch the campaign with the training of prison officials on the importance of prioritizing WASH within the prison environment.

The Akure Prison, according to Alabi, was the first stop and the organisation intends to extend its reach to other prisons across the 36 states of the federation.

The Akure prison has, over the years, managed its sewage disposal in the most unhygienic ways, which has created problems for the prison environment and villages around the prison.

The NGO discussed with the prison officials on the immediate construction of soak ways, which has been non-existent.

Alabi and his group later donated to the prisons authority various items, including new and clean prison uniforms, mattresses, blankets, pillows, mosquito nets, soaps, disinfectants, drinking water kegs, drinking cups, buckets and mosquito nets.

Present at the launch were Comptroller, Ondo State Prison Command, CP Kinane Suanu Dumnaawae; the Medical Director, Ondo State Prisons, Dr Ogunsuyi and Head of Akure Prison, DCP ABC Emuchay.
