APC Berates Okowa over 568 Sacked Delta Line Workers

The All Progressive Congress (APC) Delta State, has berated Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for approving the sack of 568 staff members of Delta Line Transport Service Ltd.

This is just as the opposition party described the sack as not only insensitive to the plight of Delta workers but one that has shown that the governor is insensitive.

The party made its position known in a press release issued on Saturday by its State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Moses Kamanya.

He said it was sad that while other progressive governors were initiating people-oriented projects and engaging all other activities that would better the lots of her citizens, Okowa was throwing Deltans into the already saturated unemployment market.

The party stated further that the action was wrong at a time Deltans were complaining over the way their collective heritage was being auctioned out to political allies who, it alleged, sponsored his governorship election in 2015 for a mere N161 million, for an equity, another investor bade for over N2 billion.

The party further expressed shock that 568 breadwinners could be so thrown into an uncertainty.

“Our independent investigation has shown that the management of God Is Good Motors (GIGM), who bought 70 per cent stake of the company from Delta State government, at a rip-off price of N161 million, has not invested a kobo since it took over.

“Like every action of the PDP-led government since 1999 which has always been anti-Deltans, if not, how do you explain why a government will throw its citizens into untold hardship on the altar of political exigencies?

“Today the information out there is that, the new management has started recruiting non-Deltans employees from Anambra and Imo states at the expense of Deltans who laboured for the transport company for years, so whose interest is Okowa serving?

“We sympathise with the affected families over this unjust action of the PDP led government in Delta state and we want Deltans to see this as a wakeup call to vote out this insensitive government come 2019 and take back our state and commonwealth from these rabble rousers that have held the state hostage,” Kamanya noted.

Delta State government had recently announced the disengagement of 568 workers from the Delta Line Transport Company.
