Barely a month after vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, assured the fleeing Tiv people of Nasrarawa State of their safety during his recent visit to the state, suspected herdsmen were yesterday reported to have killed a Tiv farmer in Gada-Biu village of Obi Local Government Area.

This was even as one person was also reported missing following the attack at the early hours of yesterday.

An eyewitness told THISDAY in Lafia that the victims, who were in company of other farmers, were surrounded on their farm by the suspected Fulani herdsmen and butchered the unsuspected victim.

The eyewitness, who is a journalist but prefered anonymous, lamented that the incident took place at about 6:45a.m. yesterday.

“The Tiv farmers went to their farm to cultivate thier farm this morning when the Fulani people surrounded the farmers and butchered one Aondovihi Tuur who died immediately, while Virlumun Atsagba is presently missing as over twenty others are severely wounded and are receiving treatment in the Agaza Primary Health Care Centre in Obi LGA of the state”, he claimed.

All attempts to get reaction from the state police command on the recent attack were not fruitful as the Police Public Relations Officer, Ismaila Usman, promised to get back.
But as of the time of filing in the report, the PPRO was yet to respond.
