A non-political group, Youth Enlightenment and Social Justice Foundation (YESJUF) in Katsina state Saturday said the alleged plot by some senators to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari was not a solution to the nation’s problem and not in their interest.
Some senators had reportedly recently threatened the president with impeachment over the trial of Senator Bukola Saraki and Senator Ike Ekweremadu over alleged forgery.
The state Chairman of the Foundation Mohammed Idris Ruma, in a press conference, described the move by the senators as “Fracasâ€, and stressed that those calling for the impeachment of the president are not doing it for the interest of many Nigerians.
He said, “It is our belief that the challenges facing this country are not as much as they are being overblown and not up to the level of impeachment under a civilised democratic systemâ€.
“We believe President Muhammadu Buhari is doing his best in ensuring increase security, economic growth, employment opportunities and other programmes and activities as indicators for national development, so any attempt to impeach him is not in our interestâ€, Ruma said.
The foundation’s chairman further noted that there are hitches caused by different forces impeding the smooth administration of President Buhari, and said the problem can be addressed with the support of all and sundry.
He urged Senators and Members of the House of Representatives from Katsina state to distance themselves from any move against President Buhari, adding “including the so-called impeachment sagaâ€.
While applauding the security personnel for curtailing the current security situation in the country, particularly in the north-east, the state chairman of YESJUF called on them to rekindle their efforts in averting that of Zamfara state and Birni-Gwari in Kaduna state.
The foundation pledged its unflinching support for the president and other political leaders across the country to enable them to deliver their campaign promises to the electorate.
