The National Working Committee (NWC) of Accord Party (AP) has said it will neither support President Muhammadu Buhari nor any other party’s candidate in the 2019.
The party wednesday commenced what it described as a strategic meeting geared towards ensuring that the party produces the next president of the country, even as the party said it was not considering adopting a presidential candidate in the 2019 elections.
The National Chairman of AP Mohammad Lawal Nalado, who briefed journalists in Abuja before the party’s National Executive Committee (NWC) meeting, said the party now has the required national spread to win the 2019 elections, in addition to the cohesion which he said is now exiting in the NWC of AP.
Responding to the rumours that the party is working for the APC, he said the party is an independent party, which does not work for any other political party, promising that AP was not in any form of political alliance and does not intend to form any alliance with any party.
He said the party did not fielded a presidential candidate in 2006, 2011, and 2015 due to its belief that it does not have the geographical spread, promising that the teaming supporters of the party would field candidates at all the elective positions.
Nalado said the party condemned the killings across the country, calling on the government to rise up to address the killings, noting that security of lives and property of Nigerians is the basic responsibility of the government.
He charged the security agencies to double their efforts to arrest the killings, adding that the killings are not what should be judged from political perspective but condemned by all well meaning Nigerians.
The national chairman said it was unfortunate that the killings have persisted till now few months to the 2019 general election.
Nalado who stated that they have been winning elections in various positions since 2006, said: “We now have the capacity to win the presidential election in 2019 because we have the strength.â€
On the spate killings all over the country, which is threatening the conduct of the 2019 elections, the Accord Party chairman said everybody was concern about the level of insecurity in the country.
“It is unfortunate that the killings are taking place and Accord is one of the political parties that is worried. We condemn this act in its totality. We have a government and it must ensure its primary assignment which is to protect lives and property is adhere to.
“This killings is coming at a critical time. The security agencies must fight this menace so that our lives and property could be safeguarded. We are not happy with the killings,†Nalado added.
