President Muhammadu Buhari has declined assent to the recent amendments to the Electoral Act Amendment, including the amendment changing the order of election for the presidential elections to be conducted last.
Buhari communicated his decision to the Senate in a letter read by Senate President Bukola Saraki at plenary Tuesday.
Buhari said the amendment causing a change in sequence of general elections may infringe on the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to determine election dates as guaranteed by Section 15 (a).
