S’East Govs Set to Construct 450km Ring Road in Five States

Worried by the deplorable state of roads in the South-east Zone,  governors of the zone rose from a closed door meeting last night in Enugu with a resolve to

 to construct a Ring road covering a total area of 450 kilometers that would connect all the states of the area.

The Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Dave Umahi, who read the communiqué of the forum after their meeting at Government House Enugu, said the Ring road would promote economic development of the South-east States and for ease of transportation system in the region.

He said forum took presentations for Gas Pipelines in the South-east and advised the Consultants to follow up on details of implementation especially as it relates to right of way.

“The forum commended presentation on Aba Independent Power Project by Prof. Bart Nnaji and asked him to liaise with the secretariat for further implementation with the presidency.

“Received presentations on several issues, especially, from National Addressing System of Nigeria and the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) on assessment of MDAs for effective performance,” he said.

The forum chairman said that a private business enterprise presented to the governors a lottery business proposal in the South-east states and that the forum advised him to reach out to various states in the South-east in going about the proposal.

The governors also directed the five South East States Chairmen of Traditional Rulers Council to attend the next meeting of the forum for amicable resolution of the crisis among them.

The forum expressed deep appreciation to the governors and the people of the South-east for the role they played in giving the former Vice President Dr. Alex Ekwueme, a befitting burial and enjoined them to continue in such spirit to move the South-east states forward.

Other governors who attended the meeting include; Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Deputy Governor of Imo State, Eze Madumere, who represented Imo Governor, Rochas Okorocha.
