NIG Reappoints Onyekwere as Board Member

Mr. Chima Uzoma Onyekwere, OON, has been re-appointed as a member of the board of trustees of the Nigeria Internet Group (NIG) at the annual general meeting of the organisation held recently in Lagos.

In a congratulatory letter personally signed by the President of the National Executive Council of NIG, Mr. Destiny Amana, he said: “Your appointment is indeed not by accident but an attestation to your esteemed profile in your profession, the industry you represent and particularly your immense contributions to the information communication technology (ICT) industry for the national development of our great country, Nigeria.”

Amana commended Onyekwere’s acceptance of the appointment as “a call to national duty to keep our great country’s flag flying high in the cyberspace which NIG is the flagship.”

Born on 19 May1961, in London, United Kingdom, Onyekwere attended Federal Government College, Kano from where he was admitted into the University of Ife where he obtained a degree in Geology/Geophysics. He later obtained a Masters degree in Information Technology (Information Assurance) from University of Maryland University College, UMUC, USA.

Onyekwere who is also a graduate of Lagos Business and Harvard Business Postgraduate Schools, started his Career with Mobil Nigeria Limited before establishing Saap Tech Nigeria Limited which was a technology distribution Company. He championed the internet revolution in Nigeria by establishing one of the first Internet Service providing (ISP) company in Nigeria, LinkServe Limited.

He has served and is still serving Nigeria as Chairman Internet exchange Point (ixp.net.ng) and Chairman Nigeria Internet Registration Authority (NIRA.ng) respectively.
