The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Monday expressed the federal government’s determination to encourage young ones to achieve their full potentials in the deployment of science, technology and innovation to promote the nation’s economy.

The minister disclosed this in Abuja at the National Final examination of the 774 young Nigerian scientists presidential award held at the federal secretariat.

He said science, technology and innovation has remained a very important tool for building great nations that have made remarkable contributions to human civilisation.

Onu stressed that the walls of poverty, disease and illiteracy have crumbled under the weight of science , technology and innovation.

According to him, “Already, there are strong signs that Nigeria has begun the journey to greatness through the utilisation of science and technology. In 2015, we had only six patents for research findings in the country which were processed through the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP). A year later in 2016, it increased to 16. By the end of 2017, it rose to 50.”
