Weah: Time to Walk the Talk

A former international football star, George Weah, was last week sworn in as the 24th president of Liberia, succeeding Mrs. Ellen Sirleaf-Johnson, having defeated former Vice-President Joseph Boakai. Weah’s inauguration was greeted with a lot of excitement and jubilation as was his election.

Unfortunately, Weah is coming into office at a very difficult period in the life of Liberia, when literally all the facets of the system require serious attention. Although he is largely presumed inexperienced for the task at hand, Weah is undaunted and certain that the work is doable.

This is why he must not only sit to his assignment pretty early but hit the ground running because his time started counting from the minute he took the oath of office. Luckily for him, he came in with a lot of goodwill amongst the youth and this must not be frittered away as it is always with most African leaders. Weah would be expected to start walking his talk every step of the way. His success as president, it is believed, would open many impossible doors for many others around the world.
