Presidential Promise

RANDOM THOTS

This is different and better than a campaign promise. President Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigerians that he would deploy the grace of his recovery to serve the country with renewed strength.

Buhari, according to a statement, made the remark recently in Daura, Katsina State, while receiving associations of farmers, businessmen, youths, elders and politicians from the State. The president, who described his recovery from illness as an act of God, said he returned to the country with renewed hope and strength to pursue policies that would improve the livelihood of Nigerians and also reposition the country for good.

He told his visitors: “Considering the challenges we are facing as a nation, we have been doing our best to provide sustainable solutions, and we will keep doing our best.”

Well said, and as 2017 winds down with a largely unimplemented budget of hope and growth, many Nigerians would be interested in the president’s promise and also hold him to such a pledge when the New Year 2018 kicks off in a few days.

PMB doesn’t need a crystal ball or a needs assessment to know that millions of citizens still go to bed hungry daily; that many youths still prefer to face a perilous journey across the Sahara Desert and the icy waves of the Mediterranean Sea than to remain jobless back home; and that evil oil marketers and callous unions still inflict untold pain and hardship upon citizens at the end of each year.

Happily enough, the president is in good health and fine fettle. And although many Nigerians have lost patience with his pace of governance, PMB is still a man of his words, and this will be put to the strictest test in the days and months ahead…simple truth
