As part of its effort to bring succour to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in hard-to-reach communities, the Dynamic Minds 2013 Club of Nigeria recently donated relief materials to 1,118 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at Gurku Interfaith Relocation camp in Maraba, Nasarawa State.

Speaking at the donation of the materials, the club’s President, Mr. Eddy Nwokoye said the club was committed to execute more programmes and projects this year and the relocation camp was selected to benefit from its programmes.

He recalled that the Club, as part of its activities in 2016, donated to some visually impaired students of Government Secondary School in Kwali, Abuja with instructional materials worth N6 million.

Nwokoye noted that the donation was to enhance the educational capacity of the students who constitute the Special Unit Band of the School but were visually impaired.

He said, “From the information available to us, this camp is an interfaith relocation IDP camp with total population of about 1,118 people comprising of 210 families and widows. The largest family has a population of 17 people.

“The camp is populated by people that were displaced by Boko Haram from Madagali Local government of Adamawa state and Gworza local government area of Borno state,” Nwokoye added.

The president commended the Founder of the camp, Mr. Marcus Gamache for the remarkable humanitarian service and the Christian Mission 21 of Switzerland for the construction of the IDPs camp, interfaith worship centre, clinic and primary etc. “We can’t quantify how much we have spent but the items we brought is over a million naira,” he said.

The Camp Coordinator, Mr. Bulus Garuba said unlike other IDPs being coordinated by government, the founder built houses to accommodate all the 1,118 persons in the camp.

Due to the high level of coordination in the camp, Garuba stated that they have never recorded any case of rape or woman being impregnated in the camp, noting that there was no case of hunger too.
Items donated include 10 bags of 100kg maize, 15 bags of 50kg rice, 5 bags of 100kg sorghum, 40 cartons of noodles, 2 bags of salt, bales of new and used clothes with shoes, sewing machines, toiletries among others.
