Former Governor of Enugu State, Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo has endorsed the Ladies Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria (LPGAN) as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

The dream of LPGAN will finally be realised with a first female professional golf tournament in Abuja between November 29 and December 2.

The tour is the brainchild of Uloma Mboku, Nigeria’s only certified female professional golfer.
It will hold with a minimum field of 20 players drawn from Ghana, Senegal, Congo, South Africa among others.
The logistics support will be provided by Ojay’s Travel and Tour Limited.

The sponsorship agreement was signed yesterday at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.
Mbuko said the floating of the tour was a fulfillment of a dream she had nurtured over the years.
Nwodo, a former two-time secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said the ladies tour was long over due in Nigeria and is primed to achieve greatness.

“This ladies tour is the first time it will happen in Nigeria, though it is coming very late. Golf is the only sport with the capacity to compete with football for money and fame. It is easier to be known as a sport person than a politician,” Nwodo said.

He lauded Mboku, who is a member of the South African Ladies Golfers Association and US Female Professional Association, stressing that she has the education and technical capacity to impact her knowledge to others.

“Uloma is a professional who has refused to domicile the talent she has acquired to herself. I took interest in her because I found out she has the knowledge and communication skills to impact her skills to others,” Nwodo stressed.
Hans Omang of Ojay’s said the female tour would serve as a platform in building his brand.

The company would help drive the tour’s vision by sourcing for the seed money towards organising the first LPGAN Tour.
