An Assistant Police Commissioner, Mr. Emmanuel Adeniyi, and members of his family have been reportedly abducted by armed gunmen along the Birnin Gwari-Funtua road in Kaduna State.

The incident was said to have occurred on Wednesday when the police officer, serving in Gusau, Zamfara State, was travelling with members of his family along the Birnin Gwari road noted for banditry.

The police boss and three members of his family were said to be travelling in a Hilux van when they ran into the gunmen who forced their vehicle to stop and whisked them away in another vehicle.

Also, another police officer was said to have been abducted with three others while travelling to Birnin Gwari in a Sharon bus on Wednesday.

Sources said immediately the police patrolling the route got the information that some persons travelling in a Sharon bus had been abducted, they raised the alarm as one of the passengers had during a stopover at a police post identified himself as a policeman.

It was also learnt that a popular businessman from Birnin Gwari known as Danhaza and his driver were also abducted three days earlier along the same route while travelling to Kaduna from Birnin Gwari.

The businessman and his driver were said to be travelling in a VW Golf car when the gunmen blocked them and forced them into the bush.

The police in Kaduna could not, however, confirm the kidnappings, as the spokesman of the command, Aliyu Usman, did not respond to phone calls.
