Former National Working Committee members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday advised the leadership of the National Caretaker Committee of the party to avoid anything that will precipitate crisis during the forthcoming elective national convention.
The former leaders of the party who paid a courtesy visit to the chairman of the NCC, Senator Ahmed Makarfi in his office asked him to ensure that fairness and justice prevailed at the national convention.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the former Minister of Aviation and former National Woman Leader of the PDP, Dr Kema Chekwe, said that the current leadership style in the party has the shown respect for PDP constitution.
“We believe that the criteria that will be adopted by NWC in the preparations for the convention in December will minimize controversies and crises. We strongly believe in your ability to conduct a credible process, conscious of the rebranding of our great party.
“The party is now facing a trying period of rebuilding and repositioning. You scored another phenomenal victory by organising the August i017 non-elective Convention at the Eagle Square Abuja and strategic decisions for the future strengthening of the party were taken. Thank you Mr. Chairman and all the NWC members.
“The confidence you restored in the party is one of the motivating factors for the former NWC members to get together and form a platform for energizing the structures of our party for a return to its pride of place,†she said.
In his remark, Makarfi said PDP is a family and it should continue to be one.
On the convention, he told the members to be rest assured “that we’ll do all that needs to be done to see that we have a transparent, just and fair processes. It is not a single event, it is a processâ€.
